I'd gladly pay a tenner for that, lovely looking bit of meet. No idea if that's a good price though....

Re: new member

I'm certainly no expert but I've used several different fuels already and I %100 recommend heat beads, from my limited experience they're easily the best I've used. Light well enough and last forever in my excel.

Re: Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt

Awesome, cheers guys. I took a bit into work for the lads to try and they went nuts for it so I guess it's not all bad. Just I know it can be a hell of a lot better.

For now I'll try the stock option, next cook I'll give the foil a shot. It's a massive learning curve like.

Re: Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt

Eventually hit 195 at about half four this morning. Pulled it off and left to rest in cool box. Pulled it first thing this morning and it's pretty dry! Outside is tough as leather so that'll be binned. Mostly the inside meat is OK and tastes decent but it's very dry.....pic below.

Any idea if it's ...

Re: Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt

I may be wrong, but in my experience you are going to get a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong burn from that many Heat Beads. Yes cook it till it's just around 200 (what I do but others may do different) remembering it will add another 5 or so degrees when resting. Then foil, wrap rest indulge ...

Re: Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt

I'm using a proq excel. Loaded it this morning with a full bag(7kg) of heat beads. Took about 5 pieces out and loaded them into my weber chimney starter along with about half a starter full of part used heat beads from the other day. Lit that and chucked the lit on top of the unlit. At 8 this ...

Re: Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt

Thanks for the replies guys, trimmed the pig and it's been on the smoker since 8 this morning.

May sound like a stupid question, but how do I know when to throw some more fuel on??
