Re: pizza stone?

Already got one of the IR thermometers

I think my plans have changed a slight bit since that google sketch up, I'll be altering my grill area so I can grill and smoke on it - but that's at least a year away.

I'm used to the temperatures and behaviour of my oven (I know when it's hot enough to ...

Re: pizza stone?

That's definitely something I would do in the future when I build a mkII (probably if I ever move house), with some form of continuous data logger :D

Re: pizza stone?

It's a barrel vault design rather than pompeii which gives a rectangular hearth rather than circular. All hand built (not pre-cast or anything).

You can check out the full build on the UK Wood-Fired Oven Forum here: http://ukwoodfiredovenforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bvovens ...

Re: pizza stone?

Here you go aris...

My brick oven, built with 100+ year old bricks. Not the finest brick work - I'd never laid a brick before in my life before starting and It's not yet finished, a few things need finishing off, the roof (will be natural slate tiles) which I'm doing this weekend, cutting the roof ...

Re: pizza stone?

I just built a whole brick oven (and it's massive)

Although I have used pizza stones in the past, I've had varying degrees of success. One was fantastic, but randomly broke after about 30 or so uses. No idea why it broke, except there was a lot of steam in the oven at this point, not sure if this ...

Jamie Oliver Party Barrell was £200, now £50

At the weekend I went to homebase and noticed a huge Jamie Oliver Party Barrell Charcoal BBQ, reduced from £200 to £50. I thought this was a mistake and checked with customer services so I didn't get stung at the checkout.. but they said it had surprised the whole store when the prices came out ...

Re: Brick BBQ ideas wanted

Hi Gouchys,

Thanks for the post, I do agree that quality is worth paying for but I had difficulty visualising your grills.

As a rough estimate, how much would it be to produce a grill (just the grill) to the estimated size shown in this article? (Both length and width and the grill bar sizes ...

Re: Brick BBQ ideas wanted

Hi Simon,

Thanks for that in-depth advice it was exactly what I was after.

I had thought about an enclosure to be able to smoke in it, if you look at the link I provided above you'll see a google sketchup of my original design. I'd block up the front with some removable timber sheeting ...

Re: Brick BBQ ideas wanted

Ah-ha Gazz too, hello!

I've had a look at Gouchy's and the cost for the size I'm after is way more than I was expecting for the "standard" wire grill rather than the chunkier cast iron ones.

The type of grill I'm after would be something like this:
