Alright folks

Post by mikey »

bbq madness in kent continues all year round
they've stopped selling coal at the supermarket so though this would be a good place to find some links
I ended up using 'swallow aquatics' over 50squid and delivery is free so they can find me :D

mostly I use a largish cast iron fire pit (1m) with custom stainless steel grill
brinkmann smoker
brick bult in bbq I use with a rotisserie
and a weber portable

coal/briqquettes I like to use both, briquettes keep the flames down and I like to leave a chicken or a slow cook pork or duck on at the end for sandwiches salads the next day.
I think large lumpwood is the best but you only get a few big lumps per bag so I squirrel mine away for special occasions
but depends on what you are cooking, the distance your grill is or if you use a grill at all.

been hot smoking for a few years now and had alot of fun , I tend to use dry rubs and will be looking to see what the debates are like dry/wet and mops. Also I'm interested onto moving into cold smoke which I've not tried.

also Like to see some extreme bbq weather pics

Welcome mike. Seems your fairly seasoned at BBQ with a good collection. I'd you're looking for top quality restaurant grade lump try Liverpool wood pellets, the £50 you spent with the other place would get you a nice load and make every session a special occasion.

Try starting the debate on rub methods or mop sauces and see what the folks here have to offer

Hello Mike

Welcome. I'm a newbie here also.

Our local garden centre still has charcoal here in N. Hampshire.

We BBQ all year so I just stocked up for the winter. Nothing too extreme though!

Hi Mike - Welcome to the forum. Yes that is always a problem this time of year... "No we dont stock charcoal after September as people only BBQ in the summer" GGGRRRR. I learned several years ago that come the end of August it is time to stock up for the winter - also many stores start to sell it off cheap then. You just need to be certain what you are buying as some of the stuff in the stores is not even worth the petrol to go and get it!. I tend to stick with Heat Beads, Penbeads, and good quality lump these days.

Where abouts in Kent are you?
