Must make you feel better it's a design issue, although still annoying they didn't fix it sooner!! At least they'll send you one when they come in. Don't worry about the rain, it's all part of being a true British BBQ warrior.

yeah - well its what I wanted, a hinge on both sides, so that's great.
I can certainly live with it for 6 weeks (when the next shipment is in - I wonder if its coming over with the bigjoes!)

Found this for the "platesetter". Perfect really, John Lewis tarte tatin mould.

However its 2mm thick. I will need to cut away some of the sides leaving 4 handles. Not actually sure how I can do that. I have a jigsaw with metal cutting saws but its not flat and I think too thick...

Is it silver anodised ally or brushed stainless? Photo looks like anodised to me. If so its soft and easy to drill/punch/cut.

If its 2mm stainless... Good luck ;)

its quite light actually and says hand wash only on the bottom, so I assume its not stainless steel.

It'll be ally then.

What type of holes do you want and where. I may have some tools you can use.

Just read what you want to do. I've got a 20mm Qmax screw in punch. Use that to make 4 holes then cut between them with a junior or maybe aviation tin snips.

I can lend you what you don't have. I work in the same building as you buddy, so can pass the gear to him.

Thanks Steve - but Dan's moved jobs! I do have a drill though so I think I can pull together the tools to do it. Just clamping it, etc is going to be interesting.

First fire photos

Post by bencops »

I lit a fire in it last night, finally.

Looking cute next to the weber kettle and small WSM

Ahh smoke. I found it came up to 320 or so quickly, then slowly crept up to 400 (wasn't much I could do to keep it lower, until I closed everthing right down except a crack, which brought it down to 300).

Sacrificial wings. They were great, really intense smokey flavour. Like cooking directly over coals but in an oven.

Dinner - rib eye steak, wings, wedges and some left over mac and cheese from the kids dinner.

Very pleased - its a great little cooker for one or two

Glad you've finally made it dirty, did the ribeye take up the whole grate?
