Electric smoker keeps tripping house fuses????
Re: Electric smoker keeps tripping house fuses????
As someone is clearly importing them and modifying them to UK spec with a 240V element already, have you thought of talking to the British distributor and asking if they'd be willing to help you out?
Re: Electric smoker keeps tripping house fuses????
There isn’t a British distributor I bought it via Amazon.com. Sadly no one is advertising a UK 230V version which is why I have contacted hearting element companies to see about getting a custom one made.

Looks like I may have to send it back to the US after all since the only quote I got for a custom element was £140 without the power lead plug and VAT. The whole smoker only cost £132 delivered. There must be an easy way to smoke food without having to constantly nurse the temperature and coals?

If you're constantly having to nurse the coals you are doing it wrong. WSMs and ProQs are pretty easy to use. Failing that you could always look at investing in one of the forced draft systems like BBQ Guru

I don't need to constantly nurse the temperature on my WSM. It will run solid for hours on end, as did each UDS I had.
Back to the electric one, surely you don't need a custom element, just something with similar heat output that will fit, or even two elements wired in parallel.

Looking now there aren't any at an overinflated UK price listed in google but at one time there were, and it wasn't a dollar price converted plus shipping. They were definitely UK spec units from a UK seller, but seem to have disappeared when I look now.Grendel wrote:There isn’t a British distributor I bought it via Amazon.com.
