Wood Shavings....

Feel free to ask any questions, one of the experts will certainly respond, don't be afraid to ask anything, we were all beginners at some point.

Wood Shavings....

Post by London Irish »

Afternoon all,

A mate of mine has just immersed himself into the 'wood turning' world and bought me in a bag of cherry shavings.
Two questions..

a) Could I 'gently' smoke with these? Or would the strands be too thin, they're about the size of shredded paper (obviously, I'd put them in a container).
b) Would I need to dry them out first?

John

It depends on how "green" the wood is, if it's just damp from conventional moisture I can't see a problem with putting the wet shavings in a foil pouch, or even some of the larger pieces well soaked, onto the coals. I don't think that even the green shavings would cause too much of a problem to be honest. Cherry is a firm favourite with some smokers so fill yer boots (or pouches)

Didn't get round to using the cherry on a chook on Tuesday but used them last night on a bone-in belly of pork, thanks Keith, absolutely lipsmacking wonderful!!!!! :D
