How good are these as (a) a meat thermometer and (b) and oven (barbecue) thermometer?

Heard that these are decent meat probes. A lot of peeps (myself included) on here are using the ETI Thermapen (Ebay £28 re-con)
Not sure how you would use it as a pit thermometer though...plastic... :o
For a very cheap way to keep an eye on internal pit temps, have a look at the attached...
