Hi everyone,
After endlessly watching Man v Food and DDD and eating plenty of BBQ during a recent trip to America I have been dreaming of doing my own stuff at home. Having read a lot of the advice on these forums I took the plunge and bought a Weber Performer, the logic being that while I want to try low and slow cooking I still want to do traditional grilling.
I have one question at this stage, can anyone recommend a good quality butcher in Southampton or the surrounding area who will have experience of the different cuts needed?
In the interim are the pork shoulder joints and ribs available at supermarkets or the rolled brisket from Costco good options to start with?
Hope someone can help?
And yes, I realise I've asked more than one question!
Anyone know a good butcher near Southampton?

Rolled pork joints from a supermarket are a good starter for 10, not tried the rolled Brisket from Costco but their baby backs are cheap enough and, depending on the butcher, can have a fair covering of meat on them. Ask your butcher nicely for spare-ribs and if they'll leave a bit more meat on them. It's a lot easier to slice the sheet of ribs off then to take the bones out individually.

Sorry - do not know the Southampton area - but just a thought - the Butchers at Farm Shops tend to be pretty good. Worth a Google & a trip to see a few.

Try Chalcroft farm http://online-farmshop.co.uk/
it's a bit out in the sticks but do some good stuff. It's a farm based butchers who seem to supply other butchers too.
Also there's a guy in Park Gate who is not bad. Depends where you are, prob not worth the journey if you're too far away although I'd say Chalcroft would be.
