Just as a quick aside, I've stopped grilling and/or frying mackerel.
I now cook fillets in a hot oven for about 20 minutes.
You'd be amazed at how little the kitchen smells afterwards.

I hate the rain, but I love barbecuing in the autumn when it's cold and (hopefully) dry.
