Impatient in Winchester

Post by DimTim »

Hi everyone.

Was a wonderful long weekend but I was unable for stoke up a fire because I spent the entire weekend replacing the fascias, soffits and gutters on our house. Still not finished but it is raining.

I am getting increasingly impatient waiting to try our new offset smoker. Well, I say "new" I mean new to us.

I acquired this (New Braunsfels Black Diamond) a couple of weeks ago free because it was in a terrible state. It hadn't been used for a couple of years and had been left outside without any cover, Still had ashes in it (in the smoking chamber !) very thick layers of impossible-to-remove-rust were beneath that ash. The whole was pretty poor but I had always fancied one of these since since I first saw one about 15 years ago. I spent a week on-an-off restoring it and I am well pleased with the result.

Here is an after photo, sorry I don't have a before photos.

Now pray for some good weather so I can attempt my first smoke.

Happy Q-ing everyone.

Hi Tim

Good to have you on the forum and it is also good to see another person with an offset smoker. They are a great thing to have. They take a bit more time and love to do compared to the Weber Smoke Mountains but still the end result is great. I look forward to see how your first time goes.
