By the way, if you can stretch your budget by another 18 quid, add the chimney starter to your order. It is a near foolproof way of starting your charcoal off, and makes using the weber even easier.

If you can't afford it, add it to your wish list as a future purchase!

Spot on advice, just me, but lighting the grill without the chimney starter is like a bacon butty without the bacon!

I have both the landmann and a kettle, see my sig block. I have always been anti weber as I believe they exploit their position as market leaders to keep prices high.

Snapped my kettle up for £50 at the end of last season and it has been bargain of the century, if your budget is £170 buy a weber kettle, it is the only answer in the charcoal world.

Feel dirty saying it though
Cheers

Don't buy a cheap chimney starter look at the handle, most of the cheap ones have no baffle or heat sink between the chimney and the handle supports and the handle support gets feckin hot and hurts a lot. The suave cool bbq cook turns into a screaming jumping running around demented idiot with a blister the size of a £1 coin on the ball of his/her thumb, well I did at least

I Didnt see the max part - try the amigo if size isnt a huge issue.

Personally for smoking my preference. I have a weber, and Proq Excel. I know my personal preference, which some will no doubt disagree with.

Before I got my Smokey Joe as a portable grill for holidays, I have been known to stick a grate over the top of a half-filled chimney.

Agreed, a Weber chimney is less than 20 quid, so why risk it.

On the other (unburned) hand, where were your gloves?
