Shoulder is good.
You could ask your butcher for a neck end too. Are you buying whole shoulders?

I generally buy what ever I can get hold of. Do you find whole shoulder better?

I find whole shoulders a bit big to work with to be honest. I do buy whole shoulders, but I cut them into butt and picnic and cut separately.
Do you buy from a butcher or are you getting your meat from the supermarkets / cash & carry? I use a butcher for pretty much everything, but I have had some particularly good boneless shoulder form Costco in the past.

Ok, I may give that a go with the whole shoulder, I get mine from the supermarket or macros. Sometimes I get it from the butcher but generally I prefer to get other meats from him.
Macros i find the best as the selection of meat is vast and you get to choose the best; also they have an onsite butcher who cat cut and prepare the meat for you if you want

Yeah Makro is ok, there's usually a good selection there and if you explain a Boston Butt to the onsite butcher he should be able to cut it for you. Is there a reason you don't like getting shoulder from your butcher though? Too expensive or not good..
Can't say that I buy any meat from the supermarket so can't comment on that.

To be honest it's cost, once I have learnt what do do I have no issue buying good quality from the butcher but whilst I'm practicing I will use cheaper cuts

That's fair enough, as long as your butcher is delivering the quality you need when you do want it.
I've found that over time my butcher has got to know me very well and I get keen pricing now. I hope you can manage to achieve the same with yours.

I go for the neck end every time, if you are looking for a decent bit of loin in there ask for them to cut the neck end and leave 3 or 4 ribs on the end.
