Charcoal Basket
Just want to thank the guys here quickly for the information on uds'.
I've finally got a drum and just waiting in getting some pallets which I'm struggling to get around here. No body seems willing to part with them lol.
Anyway on to my question, with charcoal baskets I've seen that using a sheet of expanded metal is the best bet but I can't find anywhere near me that supplies them. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of where to get some or alternatives.
Just some notes I can't weld and won't be able to use a washing machine drum.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Charcoal Basket
Go round a few local steel fabricators as they should have an off cut of some expanded/weldmesh that you could use.

The bigger DIY stores sell it, there are companies selling it on ebay.

DIY stored such as b&q? I checked the local homrbase and couldn't find anything. I'll check b&q later today.
Can't wait to burn that barrel out and start smoking.
Also to drill the holes I've seen people use step droll bits. Where's the best place to buy these.

Re: Charcoal Basket
Thanks for all the advice Keith, There's an Aldi across the road from me at work so going to go and check that out later.
Seems like B&Q is out of stock and unable to deliver, looks like this is going to be the hardest part to get.

Re: Charcoal Basket
along the lines of other ideas, I managed to find an old cage for carting racing pigeons about. I cut the top off using an angle grinder and it is perfect imho (no welding needed). Cost me £2 at a reclamation yard in my area; the expanded mesh was going to cost me between £30 and £40.

Re: Charcoal Basket
Just bought the drill bit from amazon, as Aldi didn't have anything in the local one.
I've emailed a few metal fab places near me waiting for a response.
Thanks for the idea above, I need to source something as this is the last bit I need for my build

I found these step drill bits from Fleabay for under £10:

Re: Charcoal Basket
So, I have found somewhere that will sell me some expanded metal but they can only sell a full sheet which will be 2500x1250mm.
Haven't found out a price yet hopefully its not too much. Just need to find a way to cut it down to size if the price is reasonable.
