Sorry never built one, there are some avid UDS builders on here hopefully they can assist in due course. I believe they are brass plumbing ball control valves but that's from memory.

This is about the clearest picture I could find, it shows the valve. I'm sure if you took this into either e plumbers merchant or DIY store they would be able to assist.

with my limited experience, having only built one UDS, I used three 3/4" hex nipples like these ones http://www.screwfix.com/p/brass-hexagon-nipple/92631. The hardware store I bought them from also did the back nuts and caps. Then I ended up getting "20MM 966SYL Boss Brass ball valve" from http://www.bssindustrial.co.uk/ which cost me £10.90. One end of the valve fitted directly onto my hex nip. My valve looks similar to this one http://www.screwfix.com/p/full-bore-lev ... 22mm/30584.

There are of course other solutions which others with more experience may suggest, but thats how I have done it.

Gian

EDIT: I should mention that the example valve from Screwfix (above) did not fit my hex nipple, I went in and tried it before purchasing.

Yep, that's what the ones I saw looked like, but it may make a difference in that they had red handles (different colours different sizes?)

Black Iron 3/4 nipples and caps.
3/4 ball valve as used in hotwater plumbing.
Does the job
Cheers
