Looking to do a pulled pork on my kettle this weekend. Time is a bit short to be ordering briquettes from t'internet (and having someone home to accept them).
So, where do you buy your briquettes locally? Garden centre? Camping store?
Which brands should I attempt? Big K seems to be the best of the bunch but does anyone actually stock them?
Geordy,
Wouldn't fret too much, yes if you are cooking a 12lb brisket or are in the Tennessee sour mash allcomers grand hoo-hah with thousands of dollars at stake it really matters.
I have had a very good summer on homebase lumpwood I bagged for £5 a bag at the end of last season. It burns ok get a steady temp and have had many many good porky shoulders this summer.
Important to remember a forum like this attracts err well how can I say this? nerds and perfectionists and there is nothing wrong in that but very very decent pulled pork can be made on almost any bbq with almost any fuel, except instant light those things are pre soaked in Satans wee.
So head to a local garden cente, have a crafty feel of a bag of lump to make sure it hasn't been blessed by the chippings and dust fairy and you will be fine
Except you live in the north which means it will probably snow......
Cheers
Tiny
I'm new to my WSM and was a bit worried. Mine ran for 8 hours on 3/4 of a bag of Big K lump charcoal from Morrisons doing a pork shoulder. You'll have no probs I think.
For me I have found that the BarBeQuick briquettes the best, Asda sell them amongst other places, I've found the ones that Tesco sell were the worst though, they burn through quicker and don't smell the same when burning.
I just stick to the BarBeQuick briquettes now as they are proven to work, for me at least
