Chimney starter??

I been searching all day for the bits and bobs I need to mod my offset and have been looking at Chimney starters too as I will need one right??? I have seen the Weber one's and they are around £20/£22 including delivery but I was wondering about the cheaper one's off eBay? I won't be using it huge amounts probably 10/12 times a year and could really do with saving the money if possible but if they are a waste of time I will go for a Weber

I've got a Landmann starter which works well, I've got no complaints but if I was going to buy again, I would go for the Weber one. Personally, I have not yet bought from wowbbq but I have seen them mentioned a number of times here on the forum.

Hey Paul,

I bought a cheap starter and it fell apart within a few cooks.

Ive had my Weber one for quite a few years now and its still going strong, it gets used a lot.

When it eventually fails, which looks a long time off, I will buy another Weber starter.

If you are trying to save cash, always google voucher/free delivery codes for the site you are buying from and have a look at cashback sites or even cashback cards, these can bring the cost down a bit.

Dont scrimp on the starter

You probably wont find anyone recommending the cheap chimney starter because they are already dead. It is no word of a lie that the weber one works via witchcraft, search the forums I have spoken on it before, and cheap chimney starters are as sensible as placing your love spuds in a Dobermans mouth and flicking his with a damp towel shouting "go on then!"

The mirth and gaiety that will ensue as that playful "ping" noise goes off and the handle discombobulates from the cheap chimney and you are doing the fekkkety fek dance amongst the hot coals is wonderful for onlookers to behold but I for one will have no truck with it.

Save money elsewhere buy the weber starter friend, your life depends on it

I think it will be a Weber one then!! Will keep an eye out and see if I can get any money off etc. Having to mod my offset using advice from Amazingribs so trying to keep money tight. Should be all good in the end

Totally agree though, my Weber has been great and used quite a bit and for 20 of those English notes my wife hides away from me its a fair price. The wife speaks as though it costs a 1000 of said notes but she doesn't mind eating the feasts i provide.

just to keep the thread off course, are all BBQ widows the same? complain that we are spending thousands on that contraption that causes the house to stink, spending hours of valuable time messing about with bits of coal and wood when you could be listening to them. Drinking beer with him next door stood in smoke, ruining that new shirt, knowing that she won't come near because the smell will last for days in her hair. And yet eating your carefully prepared and painstakingly researched meals like it was the last food on the planet, with the comment "you made too much again".
Or is it just me?

Get them involved, ask them what flavours they like and have a go at cooking to that flavour profile.

Trust Tiny for his erudite and articulate prose to get the point across yet again . Oh and also with the cheap chimneys there is no heat-break between the handle support and where you put your thumb. Therefore whatever temperature the coals get (fekkin hot I believe was the term used ) is the temperature your thumb will feel. Both the Landsman & especially the Weber have heat-breaks so no heat is transferred.
