All the charcoal has gone?!

Feel free to ask any questions, one of the experts will certainly respond, don't be afraid to ask anything, we were all beginners at some point.

All the charcoal has gone?!

Post by Petesmeat »

Hi Everyone,

I went to a garden centre to get more charcoal the other day, and what do I find... Crackers...? Christmas trees?! Six foot tall fibreglass light up santaclauses?!?! Wtf??! Its still BBQ season where the hell has the charcoal gone.

Anyway im stuck now, I cant fuel my smoker. Any tips, where do you go out of season to get charcoal and briquettes?

Thanks for any advice,

Pete.

I generally stock up before hand, but thats no good to you now.
Where abouts are you based, that would give some help.
Can you get access to Bookers, they will still have some restaurant grade, I would assume you can still get some online,

I sent an e-mail to Toby suggesting that Big-K or someone bring in a lorry load of restaurant charcoal to the November BBBQS event. Either pre-order, or purchase on the day. Good charcoal is difficult to find this time of year, and not everyone can justify ordering a pallet load for delivery from Big-K.

Hi Everyone,

I found a source of Cocoshell at a very good price, about a pound a kilo, but delivery is a problem. If you lot can fill up my paypal account accordingly id be happy to buy 20, 30 - whatever quantity bags and bring them to the november smoke up at Tobys place.

They are the supagrill ones too.

Anyway,

I had also found the Wow BBQ heat beads page. The question is, are they really that much better? Id be using them in a offset smoker in probably a charcoal basket (although I have not made this basket yet). Would it give me significantly better heat output?

I use booker all the time, and I have used their big blue 12kg resturant charcoal bags but I hate using lumpwood, I find the bag is 5 percent big lupms, and the rest is small chunks and dust which is of no use and just makes a mess. The briquettes seem to be more even and predictable....

Just worked it out, I can get those 10kg bags of supagrill cocoshell delivered to me for about 12.50 each but I need to get 20 bags. If we can find 20 bags worth of people willing to do it and I can get the money in my paypal (pretend its a gift so they dont charge a fee...!!) then we can do this. Im not making any money on it really, il probably get one bag of briquettes paid for out of the deal haha.

Im in High Wycombe, buckinghamshire.

Our Homebase still has plenty in stock. Have you checked there?

I also heard Aldi were selling 5KG bags of charcoal briquettes for 69p each last week in some stores!!

No idea what they're like, but definitely worth checking with your local branch I would think.

Big K deliver to your door, for a minimum 2 bag order - I assume, they continue this service throughout the winter, I'd imagine ED Bunch of Swines will know as he has a good relationship with them.
