Xmas prep'

Post by Swindon_Ed »

Thanks to a meeting finishing early today i thought i'd take the chance to have a trial run in preparation of Christmas after some mixed results on previous smokes i thought i'd try a chicken before i go putting a turkey it.

Decided i'd use some Jack Daniels briquettes that i had laying around fully lit before putting them in the smoker with some cherry wood.

Some pic's below(not sure how they've come out as photobucket seem to have changed things about), i'll put a picture of the finished product once it's cooked.

here's the link for them http://www.socal.co.uk/BBQ_Accessories/ ... /158/17976

They come with Jack Daniels barrel chunks in, but i've put them to one side to be saved for a later smoke.

Clair,

One thing that i'd recommend for you and Mr Blue to go with your smoker which i'm not sure if you've seen before is a Maverick ET-73 as this makes everything so much easier, it really is a case of set it up and forget about it until you hear the remote beep.

I managed to find one from a UK seller it was about £50 but it's well worth it.

I got mine from http://www.smokingbbq.co.uk/ - as you say, it was just under 50 quid.

Like Clair (I think), I already had a single-probe remote meat probe, but the Maverick comes with both a meat and grill temperature probe. (You already know this, but Clair may not!)

Of course, my original probe won't be wasted, as I am sure there will be times when I'll have more than one thing on the grill!

I can also say that it tasted amazing too. :D

Ordered the turkey today and i'm looking forward to Christmas dinner already.

A quick note about the JD briquettes, i found that they didn't last very long and i was soon loading the smoker with lump wood charcoal. Personally i won't be buying them again.
