Where can you buy quality fuel over the counter

Post by AlanL »

I've seen plenty of recommendations on fuels such as Big K, Supagrill & Heat beads. Are there any places that stock these for purchase over the counter as all my research is pointing at online orders. This doesn't really suit as needing to have someone at home to receive the order and the the delivery times seem to be a bit vague.

Plenty of places stock the general stuff from Big K or Supagrill.

Ideally looking for somewhere in the NW London, Herts, Middlesex or Bucks area.

I know I can get Weber fuel and most Garden centres but would like to try other fuel.

You can buy direct from Big K at

Unit 20, Milmead Industrial Centre, Mill Mead Road, Tottenham Hale, London N17 9QU.

I drive up there to stock up even though I am based in SW London.
15KG restaurant bags are about £10.50

B&Q have sold heatbeads in the past. It may be worth checking out google, you may have a local charcoal producer near you

The range in Reading sells heat beads. There's one in Stevenage that could well do.

@ Askoir - I did spot Big K in Tottenham but knowing what traffic can be like was hoping somewhere nearer but may now be something I try.

@ Jec - I'll have a look when I'm in B&Q. worth knowing.

Being that the thread was not flooded with replies it doesn't look like that many options apart from online and/or bulk buying.

It surprises me that although you can get quality BBQ's at so many outlets getting quality fuel for them is not so easy. Could this be because of lack of knowledge on the part of the Great British BBQ'ing public and so we have not created enough demand for stores to stock?

I saw Supagrill briq and lumpwood at a Tesco petrol station £5 for 5kg, obviously not restaurant grade but seems like an average price to be fair

I need to check my local Range for heat beads. I'd be interested to see if they sell them as some here have mentioned that their local Range has them in. I've never seen them in there before but maybe it's a new thing they're trying?
