Blasphemy

Post by aris »

Has anyone every smoked for vegetarian guests? I.e. no fish or meat - just vegetables, and dairy.

Other than tofu, i'm struggling to think what would work low-and slow.

I thought maybe doing some large aubergine/eggplant - either poked with lots of holes, or cut in half. Low and slow, it should wilt down and lose much of its moisture, then maybe add some tomatoes, cheese, and lots of herbs and finish it off. I'm open to other ideas.

If anyone has anything they've tried, let me know :)

Ah, that sounds nice. Quite a dense vegetable - did you cut it up, or do it whole/half?

Halved and deseeded.
Drizzled with olive oil, season with S&P.
Placed in silver foil, top open, skin down and smoked on Hickory for a couple of hours.
Then drizzle with melted butter and maple syrup and serve as a side.
OR.
We make a quorn chilli and "stuff" the squash with this as a main.
Edited to add, we may have added the honey/maple syrup during the smoke, looking at the pictures.

Will give that a try. I assume you did it at the usual 225-250F? How long did it take?

You can smoke some ABTs and just do some without any bacon.

Prepare hot dogs in the usual way and then tip the sausage out, serve with the words "enjoy, its full of bunly goodness"

I know in these liberal frre thinking times it should be ok but it isn't Vegatarians really really pee me off and I wouldn't have one in my house let alone to an bbq. It is childish stupidity and I would not pander to it, eat the slaw, knock yourself out on mac and cheese but I am not bothering to try and cater for you, you picky prissy spoilt brat, grow up and eat the pork.

If this offends any vegetarians, good, you have been offending me for years.

Cheers
Tiny.
PS Aris, sorry good luck with the Q :)

Haha, well people make all sorts of choices in life - i'm not one to point fingers :-) Instead of taking offence, I see it as a culinary challenge. Sometimes these 'challenges" make me think differently about things, and I come up with new ideas.
