Cheap temperature controller - Completed

I sent the guy a question about just buying the fan adapter but didn't get any reply. I've got a bunch of copper pipe and fittings to build something that sits inside the WSM as a sort of air injection system so the adapter would be good to go with that, I can probably make something up myself though.

I saw a temp controller on fleabay for £8.50 and thought i'd try a quick project. Using stuff i had laying around i built a pit controller. I reckon to buy all the bits would be around £32, that's without a box or fan mount but still not a bad price

Its the stc1000. I use that to control my brew fridge. How did you hook up the pit probe?

I covered the wire with braided sleeve and heat shrink and used a croc clip to hold it to the grate.

Yes, the controllers are similar. The one i have is 12v and powers a 12v fan directly but it is a single output with a higher temp range. Up to 300c, they also now make them in degree F. Search on ebay for willhi.

That looks interesting. If you had the 12v version, and a 12v fan, you could power it all off one battery.

One thing the docs don't say is if this is a PID controller or not, or is it just a basic on/off thermostat?

It could be powered from a 12v battery, i just had a spare 12v supply. I don't know if it's a pid but i have it set for plus/minus 7 degrees of the set temp and it works fine.

How frequently does it hit the fan? Does it cycle alot?

The fan comes on 7c below the set point until it reaches 7c above. Then it shuts off. If the pit holds temp then it doesn't come on a lot.

If it keeps te temperature relatively steady, sounds liKe bargain controller.

Went through a few modifications but the final version of my air injector works well, it holds temperatures really, really well.
