Just seen in Clas Ohlson coconut shell charcoal 3kg £1.99 plus buy 2 get 1 free. Cannot say anything to the quality but might be worth a sniff.

In an emergency I go to my local kebab shop. They cook on big k lump and normally have a stack in the back. They sell it to me at £16 for a 15kg bag. Result!

I read that Heat Beads perform well. One post suggesting twice as long as other brands. I've personally tried a number of brands over the years but don't have a stand out brand in mind.

I've been buying briquettes at Lidl for some time and have no issues with them. At £2.89 for 5kg, last week it was £2.79 for 7kg, I think I can't go wrong. We have a Lidl in town that seems to stock them from Spring to Autumn but I buy a car load when the 7kg offer comes along, which it has the last couple of years. It might last half the time of Heat Beads but it is half the price too.

As a benchmark, Lidl's 7kg briquettes lasted 12 hours on a low and slow recently.
