bookers ribs

Post by gaz.ebbrell »

hi i'm gaz

i've heard bookers frozen rib boxes are ok, but before buying please can i have some advice on which ones are most suitable for smoking and whether they are all frozen together in a lump or are they packed individually so you can take a rack or 2 at a time.

also, if you haven't already seen them, morrisons are selling double/triple beef ribs as 'meaty beef bones (good for stock)'. they are being sold at £1.50ish a pack and are full of meat. hope this helps someone.

good to be here.

Alright matey, check out page 2 & £ here:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4396&start=10

I go for the £23 box, they are all bundled in to the box and frozen, there are sheets between most of the racks but this doesn't mean you can just separate unfortunately, just still need to get them a bit defrosted before you can separate them

If you get the loin ribs (AKA baby backs) they are individually wrapped and frozen.

Product code 120874 - £36.99 for 10kg - and while they are very nice and tender, they aren't terribly meaty.

£36???? Mind you, roughly how many racks do you get in that?

I normally get about 10 racks (+/- 2) in the £23 box of ribs

I don't recall - a fair few. The £23 box of ribs are belly if spare ribs, not the loin/baby backs. Different product. The baby backs are quite tender.

I've tried the spare ribs, they were £30 for 10kg. They came out pretty well, definitely can't grumble at that price. Are they as good as a fresh rack from the butcher? No they're not, but they are about a third of the price. If you're feeding loads of bodies they're excellent value.

I will have to try them, never ventured into baby backs because they cost so much for so little, I like the £23 box as they are normally about 900-1,000g each

My local bookers does the £23 German rib box and a box of Chinese meaty spare ribs at £30 for 10kg. The German ribs are ok, but are frozen together and aren't very meaty. The Chinese ribs have a fair bit more meat and are individually packaged, though you only get around 6 racks per box.
