Slow oak-smoked pulled beef chili

I managed to score a Looftlighter this week and just had to test it out, the missus was out all day so I headed to
the local supermarket to score some wings and whatever else fell into my basket. I was browsing the beef and as I was staring at the braising beef I was reminded of a recent post on the BBQ Brethren site where a chuck roast was smoked and eventually became pulled beef chili. I discussed the meat with the butcher and 'braising beef' is chuck so I got him to cut me off a decent sized piece.

1.6kg chuck - rubbed with Todd's Dirt, Holy Cow from Meat Church, Jalleluhjah Jalapeno salt and chipotle powder.

I fired up the WSM using the LooftLighter

Smoked with oak at about 270F for two hours then put on top of chopped onions, chipotle in abodo sauce, passata, kidney beans and red, orange and green tomatoes to make the chili and smoked a further two hours

Covered it at the four hour mark and let it ride until it was falling apart, it had about 10 1/2 hours altogether.

Pulled the beef and mixed it in the chili

Looks great :)

intersted in knowing your experience and how your finding the LooftLighter, as I have been looking at these recently but the £40-£50 seems a bit steep, unless you managed to get on the cheep.

MENTAL NOTE -
need to stop looking at delicious looking food on this forum, first thing in the morning before breakfast :lol:

Hi Ade - My daughter has hair curling tongs that look identical to the Looftlighter !

@adenjago - sorry I missed your query last month.

I really like it, especially for firing up the grill, I can get the whole basket of lumpwood glowing in 10 mins, the BBQ is ready for cooking on in 20 mins, no messing with lighters or chimneys - don't get me wrong I'm the world's biggest chimney starter advocate, but the Looftligter is faster (if you can handle the lekky bills for the 1800W monster that it is).

Firing up the WSM is also great, poke it into a basket of claos in a few places et voila!

I did actually get it on the cheap, but I would have asked for one for Christmas anyway if I hadn't.
