Coal Basket \ Grilling mesh

Post by thestraycat »

Does anyone have any good links to cheap expanded mesh\metal that would be suitable for a coal basket or a cooking grill... really struggling to find cheap\safe material...

If anyones got any links\website they can share that would be awesome!

Hi

I used one of those that Tommo has listed with a cheapo bbq base (£12) from Sainsburys to act as an ash catcher. I used 3 stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers to keep a gap between the basket and the ash catcher and to act as legs to keep it off the bottom. Got the idea from Miss Piggy BBQ team. :)

That ones only 35cm, is that big enough to do a full cook or would you have to top up half way?

Thats the one!

Those that make expanded mesh baskets tend to be smaller in circumference but taller. With this one you can experiment with the Minion Method and the Snake method. You will be surprised how long it goes for.

Try a company called F H Brundles, they sell it. Or is there any metal fabrication companies around you who could help.
