The White Hart, Witley, Surrey

Post by gingerchris »

A big group of us made the trip from London to Witley on Saturday to visit The White Hart for my stag do. It was all a surprise to me, but I had been meaning to go there for ages as it's the home of BBQ Whiskey Beer, who once traded in London and won Ribstock one year.

Everything about it was amazing. The service was great - they clearly knew how to deal with a big group of semi-drunks and who were unlikely to co-ordinate a sensible order quickly - they basically agreed to bring us a load of everything - both for food and beer. We were there for ribs, but the manager also brought out some of their jerk chicken and a couple of their special burgers, which included a patty of deep fried shepherds pie.

All the food was really, really good. Living in London I feel like I'm spoiled when it comes to good BBQ restaurants, but these guys surpassed the best I've had in London. Their beef ribs were honestly comparable to the beef I had in Texas earlier this year, there was a brilliant savoury flavour on their pork ribs as well which made them stand out from others I've had (maybe miso?). The chicken was also brilliant and maybe it was because we only had a couple between 10 of us but that shepherds pie burger was great.

After the meal I got a tour of their smokehouse - I was a bit worse for wear by then, but I remember seeing a Fast Eddy and an unfinished massive brick pit.

I can't speak highly enough of the place. I will definitely be heading back at every opportunity - my sister lives nearby and may find that she sees a lot more of me now.

We were in taxis (and it was dark when we got there) so I didn't see. Maybe a job for google earth but definitely go there

Hmm. Good idea. Or i could ring them I guess. Be a pain to go by train , not to mention expensive, but if I could drive it would be doable.

I really want to find good bbq because it occurred to me that I have no idea what I'm aiming for really. I like what I've done so far but I have no concept of what can be achieved.

I went a year or so back and parking is fine as they are located in a country style pub.

Hadn't heard of this place. Less than an hour from me so I'm going to give it a try soon.
