Honestly no I just rubbed them, the taste was OK but too much fat, should have looked on the forum before I started. What was disappointing was when I cleaned smoker out today the amount of charcoal dust present was massive. Used b&q briquettes, never again

You can't use cheapo briqs for low and slow. Surprised they didn't taste bitter.
You need plenty of time and heat for the fat to render.
Give them another go with better briqs.
