But something dawned on me - How do you measure your temps at a comp, when surrounding people could also be using the SAME Mav??................how does the receiver know which transmitter is yours??

Maverick ET-732
Just a quick question - we are currently doing our first smoke with our new Mav, and so far we're very impressed!
But something dawned on me - How do you measure your temps at a comp, when surrounding people could also be using the SAME Mav??................how does the receiver know which transmitter is yours??

All Weather Griller
Re: Maverick ET-732
Hi Lee,
I can honestly say I have never had any conflicts. The units need to be turned on within a specific period of time of each other. I'm sure Steve will know how they work (Wireless systems is his bread and butter and pays his mortgage) but I would assume that once they are connected to each other there is some kind of ID in the packets that tell it which is which.
Sorry I can't be more specific, other than to say it just works.
I'm glad it's working out well for you. Have you had a go at recalibrating the lid thermometer? My Weber thermometer is always consistently 50* out but it can't be recalibrated. ;-(
Cheers
Adie
Defiantly the All Weather Griller!

No we havent recalibrated the lid to our pro-q however we will give it a go another time!
WOW, when the rain falls the temperature on the Pro-q takes a massive nosedive!
Temps went from a very consistent 228/230 down to 147/149 - was slightly funny to see Lee braving the storm with a golf umbrella but i never realised the temperature would be affected so dramatically - hope it hasn't lost us too much time
(mostly cos I am hungry

Like the sound of the beast Doc
Actually we were running a little low on charcoal (although the temps were still consistent) just as the rain came so that may not have helped!

So what's cooking today Clair?
Also i'm loving my new ET-732 as i've been using a ET-73 for a while which was good but i'd have to leave the remote in the kitchen so i'd still be getting up every now and then to check what it was doing.
Now with the ET-732 i can sit here watching the rugby knowing everyting that's happening with the Traeger (and my curry bacon joint

Did some wind come with the rain Claire? Usually wind has a greater effect on temperatures than rain.

Re: Maverick ET-732
we cooked Pork (although it was a piece from our freezer and not a shoulder joint) ribs, moink balls and chicken thighs
We were really expecting this to be our best cook yet and although our guests approved, we were a bit disappointed.
Love the Maverick, but not loving the results this time, we have definately had better!! Everything almost tasted the same (although i never got round to tasting the ribs - eyes were bigger than ....!)

No there was not wind with the rain however it was a massive downfall - I do actually think the temps would have started to drop a little as the charcoal was running low at the time.
Hey-ho, practice makes perfect

Don't get frustrated with it Clair. A year in and I just cooked a Brisket I wasn't at all pleased with
But then I am my own worst critic.
Just got to work out what went wrong, which either you already know, or ask around on here and everyone will jump in and try to help.

Re: Maverick ET-732
Claire, it happens. When we did the national final at Rudgwick last year, we followed our tired and tested methods for everything and not one of the categories turned out quite right. Close but no cigar, everything was just a little down on what we were expecting.
The frustration levels when that happens can be horrendous but you got to learn to expect it and just enjoy what you've got for that cook even if it isn't your best.

Sometimes the Gods are just not on your side!
There have been times when I have planned everything out, everything ready to go at XX:XX time and at XXX°....then there have been times when I have just been completely slapdash and gone "F*ck it!" done everything 'wrong' and both times have produced food good enough to eat - although not great (IMO) and food that has had the victims asking for recipes, secrets and "how to's"!
