would help people to know where to buy a good cut from..

So ill start

More Reading...

Jennings in Caversham - In the precinct near Waitrose.

Familiar with American cuts, sensible prices, good meat, these guys are my go-to butchers and I really enjoy dealing with them. If you want American cuts for BBQ, ask for Mike and he'll know what you're on about.

Henley on Thames

Gabriel Maichin - right on the high street

A bit pricey but a good butcher. They cure and smoke their own bacon, it's the best bacon I have ever had!!!!

Down here in sunny North Devon (well sunny today anyway) I have a massive choice with local farm shops all selling their own meat which is good for special occasions, however for normal cooks I tend to head towards my local family butchers, Withecombe's, they do both retail and catering so can normal feed my needs, plus they've learned to translate my weird cut requests

Following from Al's point on Swindon butchers I use Berry's in Wroughton. These guys do cost a bit more but the only do organic local meats and they butcher to order so you can choose the exact cut you want and how much of it you want rather than getting what they have.

I'm near Cranleigh in Surrey....

Rawlings Butchers on Cranleigh High Street

and

Ben and Murrays - Ewhurst Road between Cranleigh and Ewhurst (this is an on-farm butchers).

Both are excellent.

Bettameats in Banstead. I go to them regularly as they hold a lot of pork (relatively speaking) and I can often, tho not always, pick up several racks of ribs on the day without pre-ordering. I have spoken to them in the past about American cuts and getting them to sort me out a proper Boston Butt, but haven't yet taken them up on it. The gaffer in there is fairly accomodating tho - "bring us some pictures of exactly what you want and we'll do our best" etc.

There is limited pickings butchers-wise in SW London / NE Surrey in my experience. Often you just get a dimlo in an apron and if you want anything other than a pound of sausages or some lamb chops you're in trouble. Some of the conversations I have had trying to acquire a decent Butt over the last two years would make you laugh.

If anyone does know of a decent butcher that knows what we're after and is close to Epsom or Sutton then i'd love to hear about them.
