This weekend I'll be cooking some chilli on the smoker and I was wondering what I could use as a cooking container that isn't going to break the bank. Then I remembered back to the days in south London when I used to eat round a friend’s house and they had a Jamaican Dutch pot placed on the table and everyone helped themselves . So while I was in Deptford I picked this little baby up. Believe me they come much bigger. http://s1056.photobucket.com/albums/t37 ... C00062.jpg
As you can see they are very strong and can be placed straight on the coals if needed. I looked on Ebay and Amazon and they are three times what I paid for it.
Regards
Eddie

Deptford high street, market day is best as the stalls are cheaper then the shops. But the shops are still cheaper then online.

What did you pay for it - and what is it made of?
Cast iron pots can be had quite reasonably if you know where to look - I have several in my collection

Paid £8 for it. Looks like steel to me, but very thick, heavy and strong.

Very good price. Looks like aluminum to me. I assume the '20' on the top means 20cm? Like this one:

If you want something in cast iron, try Jonny Sunshine:

I've bought some nice cast iron skillets at TK Maxx too.
How do you cook chilli on a smoker using a dutch pot? Got a recipe & technique?

Roonie sunshine looks like they have some good stuff, but as my buget is limited. I thought I'd go down the cheaper route.
Method of cooking will be pretty standered, start off with oinons, mince, seasoning, stock and then smoke for a couple of hours with oak?

So what - do you used canned or dried beans? I was wondering if the temperature in the smoker would be enough to cook beans - i know that some types need a certain temperature to cook properly (hence why some do not cook in a slow cooker or crock pot).
