New Smokey Joe

Post by London Irish »

Hi all,

Was talking to a couple of Weber reps this morning and they told me that Weber are launching a new portable unit in January......The Jumbo Joe. Same as the current model but 47cm diameter!!! :D
I've refrained from buying a new portable this year due to none really being big enough for joints, chickens etc (apart from the Cobb), so this will definitely be on my list of things to buy!!!

I'm wondering why they don't sell the go-anywhere here in the UK:

I saw a review of it on Youtube - and it looks good.

They used to but a new UK health & safety law came in last year which meant they had to stop selling it, something to the distance the handle was from the main body of the lid.

That's right Ed, something to do with no heat shield, I think.

Looking at pictures - the handle on the Smokey Joe looks identical to the one on the Go Anywhere - and for that matter, the same as the One Touch.

But there's no heat shield. Have to admit quite like the idea of a larger smokey joe - I'd be thinking of getting a 47 compact and hacking the legs in some way

When i say a longer handle i mean that the arms that hold the plastic are longer to be further away from the lid, the plastic bit is still the same.

I've got an old 57 OTG with a serious case of weber leg which i use without the legs when i need a porable. It sit's very well on the ash collector.

Forgot to mention that the Jumbo Joe will have an accompanying 'smaller' chimney starter too...nice touch :)
