bookers ribs

Post by oddsocks »

hey. did a quick scope on bookers today in prep for the sunny season (heh) and noticed that they had like 5 different boxes of frozen ribs now, some german, some with oriental writing on them, meaty, semi meaty (wrote off straight away) and i'm a bit confused as to what to get. has anybody been lately and knows which box would be what we need?

The german ones are full slabs, but they are frozen, so unless you have a chisel, you need to be able to cook 10kgs at once

I use the Germans. They have a decent amount of meat on them. They are frozen in one 10kg lump, but with a plastic sheet between the slabs which you can usually pry part into individual slabs.

For those who are curious - the 'German' ribs are 23.99 for a 10kg box (frozen).

They also do a rib called Loin Ribs, these are top grade baby backs and are individually double wrapped so they dont all stick together. A 10kg box is about £30 but they are well worth it, they are as good as any I have ever got from a butcher.

Never tried those - may give them a go next time. I just checked their website - £32.99 for a 10kg box.
If they are individually wrapped all the better - makes storage easier too. Are they meatier than the German ribs?

Im guessing this is a regional thing?
Went to my local Booker last night and they'd never heard of them. Only ribs they were selling were the "Authentic Hickory Smoked" racks or some such. Look like theyre covered in jam.
