Hi
Partner's gran has just bought us a new BBQ that has 3 x 3.5kw main burners, and a side burner @ 3kw.
Is 3 x 3.5kw for the main part sufficient? I have seen other barbeques that have 2 x 10kw burners - how do they rate against each other for overall cooking?
3.5kw burners
Re: 3.5kw burners
You shouldn't have much problem heat-wise that's for sure. 10.5kw will be plenty to cook over, if you are only cooking for two then you may only need one burner on. If it has a hood it will get very hot in there if on full.
You'll just need to get used to where to cook on it dependant if it has burner plates/vaporiser plates/lava rock etc.

wd40 - thanks for the reply.
So what is the "standard" for BBQ's?
As by simply calculations, 2 x 10kw (20kw) is greater than 3 x 3.5kw (10.5kw), and if 3 x 3.5kw is sufficient, then would 2 x 10kw burn the food?
Or does it just mean that the BBQ initially heats up quicker, at which point the user would turn the gas knobs to low/medium?

Yes it would heat up quicker, and you would have to turn the burners down.
The top of the range Weber Summit only produces 17Kwh, based over 6 burners.
The Weber Spirit, the most sold one, produces 9.8kwh.
So your 10.5kwh will be fine.
