Hello folks,
I'm finally ditching my trusty trash can smoker and building a UDS.
Have sourced this perforated sheet metal from Wickes.

Is it any good for a fire basket? Will mount it onto a 14" grate.
6mm - 3.5mm grille spaces. Should be OK I'm thinking?
Also - it states that it's 'raw steel' is this OK as in safe?

Cheers

It doesn't say galvanized, so it should be fine. To be honest though (and it is controversial) I don't think galvanized is an issue at the temperature of a smoker. It is an issue at welding temperatures though. But better safe than sorry.

I just fire up the basket good and hot with lump a couple of times. Will burn most stuff off e eventually.
