BBQ Fuel list - Performance & Price Comparison

Post by LetItSmoke »

I'm just writing this post because I noticed that fuel is an ongoing topic on this fourm, so i thoughtbthat it could be usefull if there was one post, listing as many of the fuels as possible, in one place.

This list is ranked, in order of best performance:

Lump-Wood:

1) CPL & DC Restaurant Grade.
2) Big K Restaurant Grade.
3) Fuel-Express Restaurant Grade.
4)Big K all other types.
5) Weber Lump-Wood.
6) Bar-Be-Quick All Types.
7) Fuel-Express All Types.
8) Supermarket - Brand Lump-Wood.
Briquettes:

1) Heat-Beads.
2) Big K Briquettes.
3) Weber Briquettes.
4) Fuel-Express Briquettes.
5) Supermarket Brand Briquettes.

INSTANT LIGHTING CHARCOAL, AND UNKNOWN BRANDS OF BRIQUETTES, AS THIS CAN RESULT IN TAINTED FOOD.

Please reply, and add to this list, as it should be very useful to have a complete ranked list of all of the options for fuel brand that we have.

Thanks - as luck would have it I've ended up with Heat Beads and Big K (non-restaurant grade) lumpwood as my two fuels of choice. Good to know that I'm not using duffers! I will give the restaurant grade stuff a go at some stage soon though.

Big K Resturant Grade just has bigger lumps really. As a rule, I would reccomend feeling around bags if lumpwood before you buy them, and only buyong them if you can feel some good, big chunks, as you dont want to end up buying a bag of charcoal dust.

Thanks - that's good advice. I generally buy a few bags early on in the season as they haven't been manhandled quite so much. The current bag I've got has pretty respectable lumps in it so am quite happy.
